What should have been an uneventful cruise from Galar to Hoenn turned out to be quite the opposite. Apparently, they'd found a Rocket playing stow-away on the lower decks. It was all the buzz amongst the passengers and crew. According to the chatter, the staff caught them trying to plant explosives. [break][break]

Bullet dodged. [break][break]

Isaiah watched from the ship's railing as officers carted the would-be bomber onto the docks in handcuffs. A gaunt man that couldn't have been any taller than five-six. His brown hair was unkempt, and his patchy beard was in desperate need of a shave. Honestly, he looked so meager Isaiah would have assumed him harmless. [break][break]

"What a welcome." he sighed and picked his suitcase up from the ground. Throwing it over his shoulder, he made his way over to the ramp that led down to the docks. [break][break]

The low rumble of his stomach told him to find a place to eat. But where to go? He beelined to the nearest friendly-looking person on the docks with a smile. [break][break]

"Hey stranger. Know any good places for a tourist to eat?"

CJ took a deep breath of fresh sea air and gently hated themselves for it. They so rarely got to experience things like this when Jeannie’d been alive-- she’d hated water and stayed eons and parsecs and whatever the fuck other kinds of distance away from it.

Cj had a lot of survivor's guilt. For reasons. Mostly dealing with being alive.

Kinnick sat close to their shins, breeze ruffling her spikey yellow hair. Both human and Jolteon’s head turned to watch the kerfuffle of a number of police officers escorting-- read: forcing-- a skinny, patch-faced individual off a freshly docked ship. It seemed like a whole lotta hubbub for one scrawny dude. “Wonder what that’s about?” CJ mused, thankful for the distraction.

For a second, CJ was so deep in thought that they didn’t realize @isaiah was talking to them. It was only when Kinnick pawed their leg-- roughly, with claws-- and CJ woke with a start that they turned to the stranger. Handsome stranger. Multicolored crystal-shaded hair. Nice collarbones.

CJ leaned one elbow on the dock railing, body angled at a slant, kicking one heel up to wrap around their shin. “That depends. What does the handsome stranger have a taste for?” And they waggled their eyebrows-- a time honed trick Jeannie’d been deadly envious of.

Kinnick made an angry cat-like yowl and clamped a paw over her face in shame.

Handsome? Isaiah smiled wide, "I'm not too picky. As long as it tastes good." he chuckled and slipped a hand into his pocket. [break][break]

Golden locks, bright blue eyes, active eyebrows - Blondie wasn't too bad themselves. Isaiah looked at the Jolteon. She didn't seem too happy about her trainer's forwardness. That facepalm must happen often. He flashed the feline a smile.

CJ ran a hand over their spikes, instinctively. It was a knee-jerk reaction to being complimented. “Well, Lilycove here is a port town, so we have fish, or we have…” they thought for a second, face falling. “Or we have fish, really.” Their smile returned, and they jerked a finger over their shoulder. “I know a great food truck nearby. If you don’t like fish, they might have a salad?” They didn't sound hopeful.

They saw @isaiah smile at their Pokemon. “This is Kinnick,” CJ introduced, ruffling the Jolteon’s head fur. Kinnick grumbled good-naturedly, then bounded up the dock, excited at the idea of fish.

“What was all that chaos coming off the ship?” CJ asked, heading up the dock towards the city.

"Fish is perfect!" he laughed, returning their smile. "I ate it all the time in Alola. It'll be nice to taste the regional difference in cooking." He'd never been huge on salads, anyway. Give him meaty protein over leafy greens any day of the week. [break][break]

Isaiah's amber orbs lowered to the Jolteon. "Nice to meet you, Kinnick. I'm Isaiah." an introduction meant for trainer and Pokemon. The grin glued to his face straightened as they walked. [break][break]

"You mean the guy they carted off? Some of the crew caught him trying to plant explosives. At least that's what I heard." Good thing they had, or he'd be chatting up Davy Jones right now. Not some handsome blonde and their adorable Jolteon. [break][break]

"Are things usually this exciting in Hoenn?"

“Ooh, Alola,” CJ said, “sounds warm.” @isaiah would probably fit right in, what with Hoenn’s tropical climes and pescatarian tastes. It had been a harder transition for them, coming from Snowpoint, in the much more temperate Sinnoh Region.

CJ turned left on the boardwalk and led Isaiah up a sidewalk lined with cultivated palm trees. Tourists of all flavors flocked around them, from girls in bikinis to old men with beer bellies and uneven tan-lines. A stooped woman pushed a shaved ice cart with a Vanillish holding paper cones, waggling them at potential customers. A flock of Wingull flew squawking overhead.

“Jeez, explosives?” CJ asked, a look of concern crossing their face. They pulled to a stop at the end of a line of people. Nearby, plastic picnic tables were set unevenly on a patch of grass, their slightly ripped umbrellas patterned with white-and-red Pokeball fabric. “That’s pretty extreme, even for team Rocket.” There hadn’t been downright terrorism in the region in many a moon. They stuffed their hands in their pockets, shrugging. “But, yeah, that’s classic Hoenn. There’s a giant tree growing out of Sootopolis and, like, time-space is ripping apart in places. Take your pick of crazy, we got plenty.”
